Walkers Croft
The current works at Victoria Station to improve the concourse and which involve some measure of excavation of the old Walkers Croft burial ground over which part of the station lies, was the subject of an article in the Manchester Evening News.
A subsequent article appeared concerning the great-great-great grandfather of Catherine Wain. He was Henry Bailey, a policeman from Cheetham who drowned on March 11, 1835, after he leaped into the swollen River Irwell in a desperate bid to save a boy who had fallen into the water and was buried at Walkers Croft. The full article can be read on the Manchester Evening News web site.
